Situation Update – Planning Your Visit to the Pays de Fontainebleau

Access to the Fontainebleau Forest

The Fontainebleau Forest remains closed to the public, as do the surrounding areas, until further notice. Emergency services and firefighting teams continue to operate in and around the forest to contain the wildfire.

We kindly ask you not to obstruct their operations and to follow all safety instructions to allow emergency services and firefighters to carry out their work safely and efficiently.

The Prefect of Seine-et-Marne has confirmed that the two main fire outbreaks have been brought under control. They have been contained within a defined area but have not yet been extinguished.

Sites Open to Visitors

Many attractions across the Pays de Fontainebleau, including the Château de Fontainebleau, its gardens and park, remain open to visitors during their usual opening hours.

Below, you will find a list of the museums and cultural sites currently open to the public.

Barbizon school museum: the Ganne Inn

Barbizon

It is difficult to know precisely when the inn was built. Before 1820, the only inns in the region were at Chailly. Alfred Sensier, friend of Théodore Rousseau and a historian of Barbizon, gives the date of 1824.

Millet Studio Museum

Barbizon

The house of the painter, the star of the Barbizon school. In his Workshop , Millet created his greatest masterpieces, such as "The Angelus" or "The Gleaners" ("Les Glaneuses"). This place, which has kept most of it's outer appearance from the 19th century, holds many of the master's items, and original paintings from his contemporaries.

Palace of Fontainebleau

Fontainebleau

The Château de Fontainebleau is a big part of French history! This vast building, in both classical and Renaissance style, is not only famous for witnessing Napoleon's imperial adventure.

The Grand Parquet event venue is currently being used as a rest area for emergency response units for as long as necessary. It will reopen to the public for its scheduled events.

Accommodation and Restaurants

With the exception of establishments located in the municipalities of Achères-la-Forêt, Noisy-sur-École and Le Vaudoué, all accommodation providers and restaurants in the Pays de Fontainebleau remain open and are ready to welcome you during your stay.

Access to the Pays de Fontainebleau

Access to the Pays de Fontainebleau remains possible by train and by car.

However, in order to allow emergency and firefighting services to move freely, the following departmental roads are closed:

  • RD 301 between RD 409 and RD 152
  • RD 16 between Milly-la-Forêt and Le Vaudoué
  • RD 156 between the Obelisk and the exit towards Ury
  • RD 64

The A6 motorway remains closed between exits 15 and 13 in both directions. At this stage, the motorway cannot yet be reopened to traffic, as the necessary safety conditions have not been met. Firefighters are currently carrying out operations along the forest edge adjacent to the motorway to eliminate any risk of the fire reigniting.

The R Line, connecting Paris Gare de Lyon to the railway stations in the Pays de Fontainebleau (Bois-le-Roi, Bourron-Marlotte, Chartrettes, Fontainebleau-Avon, Héricy, Vulaines-sur-Seine / Samoreau and Thomery), is operating normally.

The Transdev bus service is also operating as usual.
