Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette ordered numerous improvements to Fontainebleau, the royal couple's dream castle.
The Queen's magnificent silver boudoir, on the second floor, bears witness to this. Precious furniture, paintings and objets d'art evoke her personality and lifestyle, as well as her passion for decoration, the arts and fashion.
The sumptuous bed in the empress's bedroom was delivered in 1787. The queen was unable to take advantage of it: the kingdom was in serious economic crisis, and the French Revolution broke out in the summer of 1789...
