"In this court, one is occupied only with having a good time all day long with jousts, parties, with very beautiful masquerades always different", it is with these words that Gian Battista Gambara, ambassador of Mantua at the French court, underlined the effervescence and the magnificence of the festivals at the time of the Valois.

A hundred or so works from the world's greatest museums, including the Uffizi Gallery - Palazzo Pitti in Florence and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, will help visitors understand how these festivities unfolded and capture their full splendor.
