Located on the edge of the Forêt de Fontainebleau, Chailly-en-Bière is a lowland village with a rich artistic heritage. In particular, it is famous for its church, immortalized in the background of Jean-François Millet's famous painting L'Angélus. It was in a field near the church that the painter drew the inspiration for this timeless masterpiece, which has become one of the most emblematic images in the history of art and a source of deep emotion.

In the XIXᵉ century, the village is also linked to the history of the Barbizon School. At that time, Barbizon was still just a hamlet of Chailly, where many painters came to stay to find inspiration in the region's natural landscapes.

Even today, Chailly-en-Bière's peaceful setting and unspoilt environment continue to attract visitors. As a result, this year it was listed as one of France's villages of character.
